Long Term Unemployed

Jobs Statewide has developed strategies to help the long-term unemployed to re-engage with the workforce.

People who have experienced rejection when seeking work can have low confidence, may lack motivation and resign themselves to not finding a job. This can result in long periods of unemployment.

In some cases, supervised "work experience" programs can help people gain the skills and confidence that make them more confident and employable.

But Jobs Statewide also works with job-seekers to address the other issues that can keep them from finding work. These can include mental illness, family problems, addictions and homelessness. Counselling and assistance with finding housing and child care are among the ways Jobs Statewide helps job-seekers address critical issues.

And the long-term benefits of Jobs Statewide’s support go beyond helping people into work. By helping them overcome social barriers to employment, we’re also opening new avenues that can lead to them turning their lives around.
